The Dal Mar Hotel

Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL

Client: Wurzak Hotel Group

Project:

The Clients vision was  to create a truly unique hotel/guest experience, an enigmatic social hub in downtown Fort Lauderdale that would not only attract business and international travelers, but a thriving local culture heavily entrenched in new South Florida food and beverage scene. The Mid-Century Modern movement of the 50-60’s was the inspirational starting point for the design.  These projects are highly contextual, and created an intense connection between the interior and exterior spaces. Materiality, space, and visual and physical connections to the environment is a consistent feature throughout Mid-Century Modern projects. The subject property is approximately a .79 acre site.  The proposed project is for the development of a 323 key hotel with ground floor commercial/retail spaces. The building followed design guidelines incorporating principals of street design along Federal Highway using the visions for a “Gateway Boulevard”.  Along 3rd street the design guidelines incorporated a vision for “neighborhood connectors”.  The building’s contemporary architecture creates spaces that are always alive with activity.  Exterior spaces are designed to create a vibrant social scene anchored by bars, a lounge and a pool deck area designed to take advantage of the City of Ft. Lauderdale’s sweeping downtown views and its work and play atmosphere.
